Inaugurated in 1919, not only is it one of the fastest it is also ecological.  The network has twelve regular lines and also three Metro Ligero (Metro Lite) lines.  A map can be found on the official website of the Madrid Metro.

In most of the 300 stations there are elevators.  Between 2003 and 2007, 81 new stations were built, the greatest amplification in the history of the Metro.  There is also a project to improve the quality in the oldest stations to avoid having a great difference with the more recently built ones.
