In the month of August Mazarete, a tiny village in Ciudad Real of only 55 inhabitants, celebrates its annual fiesta. Many people come to spend their summer holiday there and the population increases considerably. Not to mention the inhabitants of the neighboring villages who also go to the fiestas. The third week is the climax; every day there is something happening.
Elena Peñalver, Esther Hernández, Alberto López, Silvia Sanz, are four friends and are in charge of organizing the festivities. But this year the celebrations coincide with WYD and this group of young people did not want to miss it. When they heard that the Holy Father was coming, they began to consider the possibility of bringing forward the village fiestas.
“I think that it’s important to be in WYD, because of everything that we will share there. I’ve got friends who remember John Paul II’s visit with great emotion – says one of these young people- I think that these are events that leave a mark and are well worth experiencing”.
This is why they approached the Lady Mayoress to ask her to change the dates of the fiestas. Lucía Enjuto, the Mayoress, did not hesitate to agree to move forward the dates of the fiesta so that these four friends could attend World Youth Day.
Haven’t registered for WYD J? You can’t miss it!
