Hazel, responsible for Madrid Open marketing, about Toronto 02

Hazel Germley with one of the WYD volunteers
“After living the experience of a WYD, your life is not the same. That´s why I would love as many people as possible to know about what´s going to happen next august in Madrid.”
This is the reason why Hazel, the person in charge of marketing for Open Madrid, one of the most important tennis tournaments, invited part of the WYD team on the student´s day. A unique opportunity to spread the news about the big event that will take place this summer with university students and teenagers.
From indifference to excitement.
Hazel heard about WYD Toronto through her parish and decided to join just as an excuse to travel around the world. She went there with some friends with the idea of having fun, that was all. They just had to pray a bit. They knew they couldn’t smoke or drink alcohol and they had to go to catechesis, but… it was worth it.
“The first times in catechesis I used to get bored and fall asleep. The following day we had to go for a very long walk. I was annoyed and tired, but the other youngsters, specially the Spaniards, were singing, dancing and clapping all the time. I was very impressed by them: they were happy in spite of the difficulties. There was something within them that I did not have.”
“Little by little all those feelings against WYD changed while I was living the different events. For me, the most moving one was the vigil. After living the experience of WYD, your life is not the same.” She says deeply moved.
“Everything in that WYD touched me. Even my host family became part of my family: last summer I went to their third daughter’s wedding, and we still keep in touch.”
